JEE MAINS

JEE MAINS

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a national-level engineering entrance exam conducted in India. It serves as the gateway for admission to  colorful undergraduate engineering programs in  recognized institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology( IITs), National Institutes of Technology( NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology( IIITs), and other centrally funded specialized institutions.

1. Exam Structure:

Paper 1: This paper is intended for students seeking admission to B.E./B. Tech programs. It consists of three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each subject carries an equal weightage of 30 questions, making a total of 90 questions. The format is multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with four options, of which one is correct.

Paper 2: This paper is for students interested in B. Arch and B. Planning programs. It comprises three parts: Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test.

Mathematics: Similar to Paper 1, this section contains 30 multiple-choice questions.

Aptitude Test: This section evaluates the student's aptitude for architecture and planning and consists of 50 MCQs.

Drawing Test: Unlike the other sections, this test is conducted on paper. Students have to sketch and draw based on given scenarios.

2. Mode of Examination:

Paper 1: It is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), where candidates answer the questions on a computer system. They can navigate between questions, mark for review, and change answers if needed.

Paper 2: Mathematics and Aptitude sections are conducted through CBT, but the Drawing Test is done offline on paper. Candidates are provided with drawing sheets and specific instructions for this section.

3. Exam Frequency:

JEE Main is conducted multiple times a year, offering candidates the opportunity to improve their scores. The best score out of the attempts is considered for admission.

4. Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates should have completed their 10+2 examination or an equivalent qualifying examination.

They must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects in their qualifying exam.

5. Syllabus:

The syllabus for JEE Main is extensive and covers topics from the 11th and 12th-grade NCERT curriculum.

Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are the main subjects, with content ranging from basic concepts to more advanced topics.

6. Admission Criteria:

JEE Main scores are used for admission to various institutions including NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions.

JEE Main scores also serve as a screening mechanism for JEE Advanced, which is the entrance exam for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

7. Normalization Process:

The normalization process is used to adjust the scores of candidates across different sessions of the exam, ensuring fairness in the ranking process.

This process considers the relative performance of candidates in their respective sessions.

8. Application Process:

Candidates need to apply for JEE Main through the official website during the application window.

They provide personal details, educational information, upload documents, and pay the application fee online.

9. Result and Rank:

The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the results after each session.

The best NTA score out of all attempts is used to calculate the percentile and rank of the candidate.

10. Preparation:

JEE Main is known for its competitiveness, and many students dedicate significant time to preparation.

Students often join coaching institutes, use study materials, solve previous years' question papers, and take mock tests to enhance their readiness.

Please keep in mind that information might have evolved since my last update in September 2021. It's advisable to consult the official JEE Main website or reliable sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the exam.
